You want to work with natural woods to improve the existing features. Use a fine slip paper to remove some of the underlying paint. Use sandpaper easily. You do not want to go too much. Do not use a grinder. Rub sandpaper along the edges of the wood. Pay particular attention to areas that are more likely to be seen. The sandpaper removes some of the new edges and serves as a means of preparing the forest for further painful attempts.
