Home Made Rolling Work Bench

May 25th

Building a home-made rolling work bench is relatively easy. Designs vary considerably depending on the money you are willing to spend and the time you are willing to invest. But all home-made workbenches include support, a top or workplace, and a lower shelf or tray backing to hang your favorite tools.

Support your bench

Your home-made Workbench support is designed to carry the load of your top or work space. If you build your bench in an alcove, attach two to four wooden pieces around the alcove at the height of your work bench’s desired height. You can also support the top with reinforced shelf brackets attached to a 45-degree wall. If you prefer a stand-alone bench, use four two-to-four wooden pieces for the legs, cut the height where you want the top. Attach your legs to a frame that you will do around your top.

Material for the project

The materials you choose to make the top or work space on your bench depend on what you intend to do with your work bench. Options range from a 3/4 inch piece of plywood or, for a more heavy option, two to four or two to six inch planks. If you use the planks, lay them side by side and place two two-for-four over them evenly one-third and two-thirds along their length. Attach them with screw or nail. This saw runs counterclockwise with the blade cutting down on your worktop, not as a skill saw. This is what makes such a clean cut on the plastic on your worktop.

Build Workbench

Add a lower shelf to your home-made workbench by attaching a two to four at each end of your bench at the support at 2-1 / 2 inches below the desired height. Then attach another two-to-four on their side and the length of the two-for-fours you just attach and cover the shelf with a 1/2 inch piece of plywood. To attach a peg board back to your bench, cut a piece of peg board width of your worktop with your wishes in height.  Make sure that two-for-four is one foot longer than the peg board is long so it will extend over the peg board and you can connect it to the back of the workbench. When you remodel your kitchen and install a kitchen countertops, sometimes you may need to get your worktops in order to get a proper fit to your walls. Consider using a table saw or a skill saw. Or, if you have access to a track, this is the best choice.
