Activities in Pacific City

  • Sunrise Haystack Rock
  • Sea Grass & Cape Kiwanda

Beach Combing – Look for agates, driftwood, shells and other odd things the ocean has washed up as you walk along our 5-mile long beach.

Storm Watching – Put on the rain gear and watch the massive waves crash into Cape Kiwanda and Haystack Rock. For less of an adventure, enjoy the storm and a pint at our local brew pub on the beach.

Kite Flying – What trip to the beach doesn’t include flying a kite? Summer breezes will always keep your kite aloft and may pull you down the beach.

Tide Pooling – Calmer seas and low tide reveals many tide pools and sea life.

Surfing – Bring your long board and surf with the locals. Regarded as one of the best surf sites in Oregon. Rentals and lessons are available from the local surf shops.

Fishing – Spring and Fall run of Salmon and Steelhead in the Big Nestucca right in the middle of town. Ling Cod, Rock Fish, Tuna and Sea Bass are just some of the fish you will find in the Ocean. Charters boats and fishing guides are available throughout town.

Clamming – Grab your shovel during a minus tide and help yourself on the flats of Nestucca bay.

Crabbing – From the beach at the mouth of the Nestucca River or hire a guide and toss rings into the bay.

Whale Watching – Hike to the top of Cape Kiwanda or out on Cape Lookout to watch the migration of the Gray Whale. Calm seas will let you see them from the beach.

Marine and Mammal Animal Watching – Just sit on the beach and watch nature’s parade of marine animals swim and frolic in the surf including seals and sea lions. Watch them fish at the mouth of the Nestucca River.
